School bus topples in Dover; no serious injuries

No one was seriously injured when a school bus toppled onto its side on a slick roadway in Dover, officials said Wednesday.

Marcia Laffoon, assistant to the superintendent for the Dover School District, said the bus was carrying seven students of varying ages when it went off Linker Mountain Road in Dover and toppled onto its side between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. She said the road is curvy in the area and that wintry precipitation began earlier Wednesday and was still falling in Dover after 2 p.m.

One child reported an ankle injury, but Laffoon said it was not considered serious and didn't require hospitalization.

The children were being transported home after the Dover district closed early at noon because of the worsening conditions.

Another bus was sent to pick up the children, who were transported back to school.
