Man charged in rape of slain Gosnell girl

Police have arrested a northeast Arkansas man on charges he raped an 11-year-old Gosnell girl who was killed last year.

Mississippi County sheriff’s deputies arrested Freddie Sharp III, 29, in the rape of Jessica Williams, Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said in a statement.

Williams was reporting missing Aug. 27, and her body was found the next day in a ditch near the Big Lake area in Mississippi County.

Authorities previously arrested Christopher Sowell, 17, of Gosnell in connection with the case. Sowell was taken into custody the same day Williams’ body was found. Arkansas Online previously reported that authorities said Sowell choked Williams and pushed her over the side of a bridge.

Sharp is due in Blytheville District Court at 9 a.m. Wednesday
