Sheriff: 2 found dead after fire in Pope County

DOVER — Authorities say two people were found dead after a fire in Pope County.

The sheriff's office said the fire was reported at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday in Dover. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered the bodies of a man and a woman. The sheriff's office said the bodies were burned beyond recognition and have been sent to the state Crime Laboratory for identification and to determine cause of death.

Also Thursday, a 91-year-old man was found dead after a house fire in Jefferson County. The Jefferson County sheriff's office said James Havis Findley was found dead inside the home by firefighters.

The sheriff's office said the cause of the fire is not yet known but investigators don't suspect foul play.
