Crews to shut lane on I-40 for soil test

Research work on Interstate 40 will require a lane closure Tuesday near North Little Rock, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Crews performing drilling operations to test the soil beneath the driving surface will close the westbound inside lane between mile markers 145 and 146, which is just west of the I-40/I-430 interchange. The lane section will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, the department said.

The work is being conducted in preparation for widening I-40 to six lanes between Arkansas 365 and I-430, work that includes modifying the Interstate 430 interchange. This project is scheduled for bid later this year, the department said.
