Heart attack suspected in death of Trumann fire chief

TRUMANN — Authorities say a northeast Arkansas fire chief has died after suffering a medical ailment while fighting a fire.

Trumann Fire Department Lt. Revis Kemper said Fire Chief Rick Winkles suffered a suspected heart attack Tuesday afternoon while responding to a house fire. Kemper said the fire chief died at about 6 p.m. Tuesday at a hospital.

The department said Winkles had served on the Trumann Fire Department for nearly 28 years.

Authorities told Jonesboro television station KAIT that Tuesday's house fire started from an accidental grass fire. No one was injured, but the home is considered a total loss.
