At least one person has died Wednesday in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock, according to officials on the scene.
It was the second of two accidents reported within half a mile of each other during the evening rush hour, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Danny Straessle said.
The first accident had occurred around 5 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the Galloway Road exit, mile marker 161.
The second accident, which involved three tractor-trailers and a white Cadillac, occurred in the westbound lanes shortly after and about a half mile east of the first wreck, Straessle said. Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs confirmed at least one person died in the second crash.
The westbound lanes of I-40 remained closed in the area as of 7:15 p.m. while officials processed the scene.
