Gubernatorial candidates to debate before press group

HOT SPRINGS — The four candidates for Arkansas governor are squaring off in a debate hosted by a group representing the state's daily and weekly newspapers.

Democratic nominee Mike Ross, Republican nominee Asa Hutchinson, Libertarian candidate Frank Gilbert and Green Party nominee Joshua Drake are to appear in a debate Friday at the Arkansas Press Association's convention in Hot Springs.

The four are running to succeed Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe, who is barred by term limits from seeking re-election this fall. Ross and Hutchinson are both former congressmen who won their parties' respective nominations in the May primary.

The convention is also set to include debates between the candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general.
