Temperatures to spike this weekend, fall next week

Arkansans can expect some of the highest temperatures of the summer this weekend when a heat wave will hit everywhere except the Ozark Mountain region, National Weather Service forecasters said.

After a string of stormy weather, the thunderstorms will finally abate Friday, with only a small scattering of showers in the afternoon, and people can expect high temperatures this weekend possibly breaking into the hundreds before Monday, weather service meteorologist Tabitha Clarke said.

The “hot and muggy” pattern will break after the weekend, however, dropping the temperature to below average starting Monday, Clarke said. It may stay in the mid-eighties all next week, forecasters said.
