1st 100-degree day recorded for 2014

Temperatures in Arkansas reached triple digits for the first time this year Monday, but likely won't approach that mark again for at least another week, according to the National Weather Service in North Little Rock.

A temperature of 100 degrees was recorded in Texarkana at 3:59 p.m.

Temperatures across the state were expected to drop into the mid- and lower 80s today as a cold front from the northwest moves south across Arkansas. Scattered storms are expected across the state through Friday, further dropping temperatures into the 70s in northern and central Arkansas. Clear skies and temperatures in the 80s are forecast.

The cold front late Monday afternoon produced thunderstorms in central Arkansas that dropped 1.19 inches of rain in Little Rock by 7 p.m.

Isolated severe weather in northeast Arkansas produced pea- and quarter-sized hail and strong wind gusts. Wind gusts as high as 55 mph were reported in the Newport area, according to weather service meteorologist Willie Gilmore. A funnel cloud formed north of Newport about 4:15 p.m., though rotation in the storm appeared to be "very, very weak," he said.

Entergy Arkansas reported at 9:15 p.m. that more than 6,700 customers were without power.
