The White House was on a brief lockdown Thursday after an unattended package was left at a fence line on the property, an official with the Secret Service said.
Rob Hoback, a spokesman for the Secret Service, said the lockdown was lifted Thursday afternoon after Metropolitan Police cleared the package, which was left at the North fence line.
Officer Hugh Carew, spokesperson with the Metropolitan Police said no hazardous materials were found in the package.
President Barack Obama was in Delaware visiting the damaged 495 bridge at the time of the lockdown, Hoback said. Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to be in Detroit.
Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park were both closed during the lockdown, according to an Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter on the scene.
