Woman, girl killed in head-on collision with truck

A Bee Branch woman and a 4-year-old girl both died Thursday when the car they were in veered across the centerline and hit two other vehicles, authorities said.

It happened shortly before 5 p.m. as Jamie Cathryn Barnum, 30, was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus east on Arkansas 124 near County Road 53 in Van Buren County.

Arkansas State Police say the Taurus crossed the centerline, first hitting the trailer of a pickup and then colliding head-on with a 2008 Peterbilt truck.

Barnum and a 4-year-old passenger identified as Paizlee Ann Barnum both died at the scene. No one in the other two vehicles was injured.

The report didn't indicate what may have caused the Taurus to cross the centerline. Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The deaths raised to 231 the number of people killed in vehicle crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
