Arkansas Achievers

Arkansas State University recognized student award winners at its 81st Student Honors and Award ceremony.

LaTasha Moore of Falcon, a graduating senior, received the R.E. Lee Wilson Award for 2014. She was chosen from a group of Distinguished Service Award winners for her record of citizenship, scholarship and service during her time at Arkansas State. She will be added to a permanent display of Wilson Award winners outside Centennial Hall in the Carl R. Reng Student Union. Moore majored in communication studies and Spanish. She is the daughter of Arlee Moore and Mattie Pickens.

The following May 2014 graduates received Distinguished Service Awards:

Micah Christensen of Cheyenne, Wyo., graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in communication studies and political science. He is the son of John and Diane Christensen.

Annie Everett of Wynne graduated with a bachelor's degree in social work. She is the daughter of Earlean Robinson.

Shelby Fiegel of Lewisville graduated with a Bachelor of Science in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and minors in English and marketing. She is the daughter of Joe and Cyndy Fiegel.

Danielle Goodwin of Batesville graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She is the daughter of Rob Goodwin and Suzie Beshears.

Stephanie Overby of Little Rock graduated with a Bachelor of Science in animal science/pre-vet and a minor in Spanish. She is the daughter of Spencer and Kathi Overby.

Randi Wright of Cave City graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She is married to Alan Wright.

Four Arkansas State faculty members received Faculty Achievement awards for 2013-14.

Jerry Ball, professor of English in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, received the award for excellence in academic advising.

Rich Grippo, professor of environmental biology in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, received the award for excellence in teaching.

Zahid Hossain, assistant professor of civil engineering in the College of Engineering, received the award for excellence in scholarship for his research into the use of novel paving materials.

Phillip Tew, assistant professor of finance in the College of Business, received the award for excellence in professional service.

Daniel Littlefield Jr. and the late James Parins have been honored by the Arkansas Historical Association with lifetime achievement awards. Littlefield is director and Parins was associate director of the Sequoyah National Research Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. They were honored for more that 40 years of work teaching and researching American Indian removal, publishing, and literature. Marylyn Parins accepted her late husband's award on his behalf.

Moriah Hendrix of Cherokee Village has received the 2014 English Award at Williams Baptist College. She is a senior English major and the daughter of Kevin and Michelle Hendrix.

Hannah Allison of Maumelle has received the 2014 Music Award at Williams Baptist College. She is a senior music education major and the daughter of Michael and Vicki Allison.

Arkansas Achievers is an opportunity to give recognition to Arkansans for their achievements.

Civilian and military achievements are accepted.
