Thunderstorms are possible across the state throughout the rest of the week, a National Weather Service official said Wednesday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Little Rock, said chances for severe weather will encompass most of the state Thursday afternoon and evening, with the exception of southwest and south central Arkansas.

“The best chances will be north of a line from Fort Smith to DeWitt,” Robinson said in an email.

On Friday, the chances of storms will again cover most of the state, with the best chances being north of a line from Mena to Sheridan to Dumas.

Damaging winds and large hail will be the main severe weather threats each day, but the chance of a tornado cannot be ruled out, Robinson said.

Rainfall amounts will depend on where the front resides each day.

From Wednesday through Friday night, the northern third of the state likely will see the most rainfall with totals ranging from 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches, he said.
