Police say a diligent bank teller thwarted a would-be bank robber early Tuesday morning.

About 9:03 a.m., a man carrying a silver gun tried to walk into the Iberia Bank branch at 6420 S. University Ave., according to department officials, but a teller spotted the gun and was able to lock the doors and prevent him from going inside.

Locked out, the gunman hopped into the passenger side of a white, "mid to late 1990s" Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquise, which was last seen going west on West 65th Street, according to detectives.

Police described the gunman as a 6-foot black man who wore blue jeans and a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.

The investigation is ongoing.

'Road rage' results in shooting arrest

Police arrested a Little Rock man late Tuesday morning and charged him in a shooting that was an act of "road rage," according to investigators.

Officers met Willie Williams, 42, near the Interstate 30 service road near Baseline Road, and he told them that he had just exited off the interstate in his rented U-Haul truck when the driver of another car fired a round into the truck.

Williams told officers that he noticed the vehicle "weaving" in and out of traffic behind him and it exited along with him.

About to take a right turn from the frontage road, Williams turned and saw a silver car next to him and then saw the driver reach over his passenger and fire a round.

No one was struck by the round, but Williams suffered minor injuries from the broken glass, reports said.

Two hours later, patrol officers found the vehicle at 1902 Dover St. They detained two people, and after questioning arrested Ricky Burns in the shooting.

Burns, 24, of 7200 Sunflower St., was charged with two counts of committing a terroristic act and possession of firearms by a felon.

High-speed chase leads to charges

A high-speed chase Monday night resulted in at least four charges for a Conway man, according to the Pulaski County sheriff's office.

About 8:36 p.m. Monday, Deputy Adam Baker attempted to pull over Jeremy Barrett, 24, for following too closely on Interstate 30, according to a report from the sheriff's office. Barrett's vehicle reached speeds of 90 mph as Baker chased the car along I-30 east, Interstate 530 south and Dixon Road, the report states.

On Dixon Road, Barrett jumped out of the car and ran into the woods, police reported. He resisted when Baker attempted to arrest him, the report states.

Barrett is charged with reckless driving, resisting arrest and two counts of fleeing.
