A homeless man is accused of stabbing another man and cutting a second man who tried to intervene, police said.

It happened about 2 a.m. Wednesday during a disturbance at an apartment in the Albert Pike Hotel building, 701 Scott St.

According to police reports, 50-year-old Malvin Burnell stabbed a 32-year-old man "multiple times" during the disturbance, which was said to have started after he "got mad over some girl and pulled a knife."

That victim suffered a major cut on his left arm and two lacerations on his left leg, police said.

Burnell also cut a 31-year-old man multiple times on the hand while that man was "trying to take the knife away," an arrest report noted.

Burnell and the victim, who was stabbed multiple times, were both found in the area of 11th and Rock streets, according to a separate incident report.

Burnell was booked into the Pulaski County jail after giving a statement to investigators, police said. He faces charges of first- and second-degree battery.

Burnell remained in the jail later Wednesday morning with bail set at $35,000. A March 26 court date is scheduled.
