Sinkhole threatening 5 residences in eastern Pennsylvania

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 22, 2014 at 4:27 p.m.

— Crews are investigation a sinkhole that is endangering the foundations of a building containing four apartments and a single family home in eastern Pennsylvania.

The problem was reported about 10:45 a.m. Saturday in North Catasauqua Township in Northampton County. That's a few miles north of Allentown.

Nobody was hurt, but the residents of both buildings were forced to leave when the apparent sinkhole damaged the foundations. The American Red Cross was helping three displaced residents find somewhere else to stay.

Officials are hoping the foundations may be repaired enough for the residents to return.
