GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip Tens of thousands of Hamas supporters have taken to the streets of Gaza City to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the assassination of the group's spiritual leader in an Israeli airstrike.
The Islamic militant group's top leadership was on hand for Sunday's rally, and thousands of people holding Hamas flags and wearing Hamas bandanas have turned downtown Gaza City into a sea of green.
The rally is to commemorate the death of Sheik Ahmed Yassin in an Israeli airstrike a decade ago, as well as the assassinations of other top Hamas figures.
Mushir al-Masri, a top Hamas leader, told the crowd Sunday that the group opposes peace talks with Israel and is always prepared for battle.
He said: "Our fingers are on the trigger to defend our people."
