Brown keeps seat on planning panel

Sandra Brown of the Pulaski County Planning Board was reappointed to the position in an 8-2 vote of the Quorum Court on Tuesday night.

Justices of the Peace Karilyn Brown of District 12 and Phil Stowers of District 13, both Republicans, voted against her reappointment.

Five justices of the peace were absent from Tuesday night’s meeting.

Brown was appointed by Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines in 2010 and is now vice chairman of the Planning Board.

Brown is director of operations for the Jefferson Comprehensive Care System, according to her resume, which was submitted with the resolution. She also serves on the White River Rural Health Center board of directors.

Planning Board members are appointed by the county judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court.

Drug-seizure cash shifts to new fund

Nearly $10,000 in drug-seizure money that mistakenly ended up in the county’s general fund will be moved to the prosecuting attorney’s office, the Quorum Court decided in a 10-0 vote Tuesday night.

The $9,399 will go into the 6th Judicial District’s special asset forfeiture fund, where it can be distributed to the law enforcement agency that seized it. The money came from the sale of four vehicles taken in a drug seizure.

County Comptroller Mike Hutchens told the Quorum Court at its March agenda meeting that the mistake occurred because his office was not initially informed that the cars that were sold came from a drug seizure.

County sets dates for mulch pickups

Residents can pick up free mulch Friday and Saturday, when the county will be giving it away from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The mulch was created from storm debris, according to a county news release.

Residents can pick up the mulch at 3200 Woodrow St. at the old Smokey Hollow building, the release said. County workers will be available to load the mulch into residents’ vehicles.
