Call center to open for storm-hit in Hempstead, Ouachita counties

The state is opening a call center for residents of Hempstead and Ouachita counties whose homes received damage during severe storms April 3 and 4, the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management said.

Disaster aid is available for eligible homeowners and renters whose primary home "was destroyed or made uninhabitable and had eligible uninsured losses," the agency said in a statement. Those eligible may apply for aid with home repairs; fixing or replacing personal property; cleanup and debris removal; and repairs or replacement of primary transportation.

Excluded from aid eligibility are businesses, secondary or vacation homes, outbuildings and shelters, the department said.

The application and call center will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays from Monday through May 16, the department said, and will be reachable at (888) 683-2336.

Alternately, an online application system will be available at www.adem.arkansas.gov.

Applicants must have available primary homeowners and renters information; a Social Security number; the address of the damaged place; a phone number and email address, and insurance information, the department said.
