Open water swim event

The Ozark Open Water Swim, a rare chance to swim with a big school of friends outside the confines of a pool, will splash into action in Beaver Lake at 8:30 a.m. May 26.

Part of the GPP Everyman series, the event will be based in Hickory Creek Park at Lowell.

The water is open to all levels of swimmer. Options include loops of 1K, 2K and 4K in the lake.

Participants should supply their own wetsuits, goggles, towel and dry clothes.

Entry costs $40 ($45 on the day of the event). Registration is available online through May 22 at gppfitnwa.com for swimmers who are at least 14 years old. Swimmers between the ages of 11 and 13 must contact Tracy Byrd at (479) 200-7718 or tracy@gppnwa.com and ask to be admitted. Preteens will be allowed on a case by case basis.

A valid form of ID is required at check-in.

Part of the proceeds will support youth swimming programs in Northwest Arkansas.
