Hot Springs man charged in fatal triple shooting

A man accused of fatally shooting a woman and injuring a man and 20-month-old was taken into custody Wednesday, Garland County officials said.

At about 4:30 p.m., the U.S. Marshal Service took into custody Steven Swanigan, 30, of Hot Springs at an undisclosed local motel, the sheriff's office said in an email.

Swanigan was wanted in the April 30 shooting in Garland County that left 26-year-old Mayela Mata dead, ArkansasOnline reported Saturday.

According to the sheriff's office, Swanigan has been charged with capital murder, two counts of attempt to commit capital murder and aggravated burglary. No bond amount was set as of Wednesday afternoon.
