Author to talk on biology of politics

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor of political science who co-wrote Predisposed: Liberals, Conservatives, and the Biology of Political Differences, will speak Tuesday at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.

John Hibbing said he believes biological predispositions are responsible for a significant portion of the political and ideological conflict that occur every day.

In Predisposed, Hibbing presented evidence that people differ politically, not just because they grew up in various cultures or were presented with certain information, but because people have diverse psychological, physiological and genetic traits. These biological differences influence much of what makes people who they are, including their orientations to politics, he said.

A book signing will follow the 6 p.m. lecture in Sturgis Hall. Seats can be reserved by emailing publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu or by calling (501) 683-5239.
