LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is advising that this is the time of year to leave baby deer alone.
Wildlife officers say they get often get calls from people who believe they've found a fawn or other animals abandoned by their mothers.
The agency advises that fawns spend most of the day lying still as a way to avoid predators. Chances are the fawn's mother is within sight or hearing distance of her young.
Commission deer biologist Ralph Meeker said some people try to take in the fawns and care for them, but the practice is illegal.
Meeker said if a fawn is in immediate danger, such as lying in a hay field that's being mowed, it's OK to move the animal a few feet.
