Man accused of shooting wife in chest in NLR

Authorities are looking for a North Little Rock man accused of shooting his wife in the chest after an argument early Tuesday.

North Little Rock police responded about 3 a.m. to 909 Cherry Hill Drive to investigate a domestic disturbance and possible shooting.

Evangelina Anaya, 52, was found in an upstairs bedroom with a gunshot wound to her upper chest, a police report states. Her injury is described as a "major injury" in the report, though police spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick said Anaya was believed to be stable Wednesday at UAMS Medical Center.

Dedrick said Anaya's husband, Ernesto G. Anaya, 58, is suspected of shooting her, though the motive wasn't entirely clear.

"It started with an argument of some sort," Dedrick said, noting the victim had recently received an order of protection against her husband. "Apparently they'd had some issues."

Police searched the house and surrounding area for Ernesto G. Anaya but didn't find him. Police described him as a Hispanic man with brown eyes and black and gray hair, who stands about 5-foot-7 and weighs 180 pounds. He should be considered "armed and dangerous," police said.

Ernesto G. Anaya is being sought on warrants for first-degree domestic battery and violation of the protection order.
