All UALR, Arkansas State athletic teams above minimum APR score

UALR and Arkansas State are in the clear concerning the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate figures that were released Wednesday.

All 14 of UALR’s athletic teams and all 16 of ASU’s scored above the minimum 930 benchmark set by the NCAA to avoid penalty that could reduce practice time or involvement in postseason tournaments. The APR measures academic progress and retention rates over a four-year period.

The closest to the 930 was ASU’s football team, which received a multiyear score of 938 that comprised the academic years 2009-2010 to 2012-2013, and a single-year score of 964 for 2012-2013. Those scores were an improvement from the previous year when its multi-year score was 938 but its single-year score was 902.

ASU recorded a multi-year score of 968 for men’s basketball, 960 for baseball and 958 for women’s basketball.

Its 968 score for men’s basketball was the highest for the program since the NCAA started tracking retention rates in 2004, and fell in line with continued progress. ASU scored an 882 in 2009 but improved its multi-year score every year to 895, 921, 922 and 968.

UALR’s multi-year and single-season scores for men’s basketball dropped for the third consecutive year. UALR scored a 943 this year after posting 948 in 2012, 970 in 2011 and 971 in 2010. UALR’s women’s basketball team’s score dropped from 966 last year to 961, which ended a three-year run of raising its multi-year score.
