Small fire reported at Arkansas corrections center

TEXARKANA — Officials say no one was injured after a small fire at a Texarkana community corrections center.

Prison officials moved 471 inmates to an outdoor recreational area after smoke was seen Thursday afternoon at the Southwest Community Corrections Center. The inmates were moved back into the jail after the smoke cleared.

Community Corrections Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler says investigators believe the fire started when inmates stuffed some toilet paper in a vent then set it on fire. Tyler tells the Texarkana Gazette that the incident will be fully investigated.
