–––––•–––––Mr. ROBERT R. ELLIOTT, age 81, of Little Rock, died Tuesday at the V.A. Hospital in Little Rock. He had been in poor health for the past several years. Mr. Elliott was born April 6, 1933, in Palestine, Arkansas, and was the son of Noah Elliott and Stella Morris Elliott. He lived in Little Rock most of his life, was an asbestos worker, and was a Veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Elliott married Betty Cupples in 1956, and she survives him along with one daughter, Dinah Barbod of Little Rock, one son, Bobby Elliott of Little Rock, two sisters; Kay Dooley of Forrest City and Ila Mae Ballard of Heber Springs, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

–––––•–––––JAMES ALLEN GILL of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 90. James was born August 23, 1923 to the late Tom and Eura Gill in Ashdown, Arkansas. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Marshall Islands. He was the proud owner of the Town and Country Soda Fountain and Grill. He was a member of Primrose United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorris Ann Gill; daughters, Luann Howard and her husband, Gary Howard; Annette Cagle and her husband, Robert Cagle; three grandchildren, Laura Rebecca Wilkerson, Patrick Bradley Cagle, Megan Leann Cagle; two sisters, Gloria Davis and Charlene Hawkins; numerous nieces and nephews.

–––––•–––––LEROY PATTERSON, 84, of Roland went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Leroy was born on June 24, 1929 in Brownfield, Texas to the late Joseph Patterson and Velma Montgomery Patterson.

Leroy was a Baptist minister for over 60 years. He is survived by one son, Jerry Patterson of Mabelvale, Ark.; three daughters; Susan (Joseph) Trimboli, of Little Rock, Ark., Judy King of Savannah, Tenn. and Sue Ann (Richard) Weatter,daughter-in-law Karon Patterson, 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, one brother, Clarence Patterson. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Patterson, two sons, Robert Earl and Edward Lee; and two grandchildren.

–––––•–––––Master Chief RICHARD A. POTTER, USN (Retired) age 71, of Jacksonville passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was born May 2, 1943 to the late Harold and Florita Potter. He served in the United States Navy for over 20 years and served during Vietnam, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. Mr. Potter later retired from the United States Postal Service. After retirement he enjoyed traveling in his RV, fishing, and spending time with his dogs; Pucky, Peppy, Paco, and Harley.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Potter II. He is survived by his daughter Candi Potter of Cabot, brothers, Larry (Judy) Potter of Alexander, Randall (Mary) Potter of Pennsylvania, one granddaughter, Aarin Waters of Conway, and a host of nieces and nephews.

–––––•–––––CATHERINE LENORA (BENEFIELD) THOMPSON, 84, of Little Rock, went to be with her Lord, May 20, 2014. Born January 4, 1930, in Malvern, Arkansas, the daughter of Harve Thompson Benefield and Ida Lenora (Stroupe) Benefield. Catherine was a devout Christian and an active member of Christ Church in Alexander. Not a day went by that she did not read her Bible. It was always on her kitchen table. Her sister Frances said, that if anyone would be going through the Pearly Gates, it would be Catherine. Her greatest joy was her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her beloved cat “Miss Kitty”. They were all in her daily prayers.

Preceded in death by her husband “Hank”, her parents, five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Kumpe (Ernie); son, James Thompson; son, William Thompson; daughter, Virginia Berry (Ronnie) and grandchildren, Jeffery Kumpe (Angel); Angela Kumpe (Rick); Monika Rodgers; Jamie Norvell (Daniel); Crystn Thompson and great-grandchildren, Justin Kumpe, Jeremy Kumpe, Michael Runyan, Matthew Pearson, Matthew Rodgers, Lauren Rodgers, Alyssa Rodgers, Dylan Puckett; sister, Frances O’Rear (Bill); brothers, Roy Watts (Ruth) and Paul Watts (Wanda).

At Catherine’s request, there will be no service or family viewing. She will be cremated and her ashes scattered on the property where she grew up in Vimy Ridge and spent many long hours working in the fields.

–––––•–––––CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Father Linus Chikaodili Ukomadu, 55, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church in Cherokee Village and St. Mary of the Mount, Horseshoe Bend, died on May 21, 2014 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Father Linus, was born in Orlu, Nigeria on April 27, 1959, and ordained to the Priesthood in the Catholic Church there on July 28, 1990.

He served in various capacities in the Diocese of Orlu until September 1999 when he began priestly service in the Diocese of Little Rock, which encompasses the whole of the State of Arkansas. Father Linus served as associate pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hot Springs, and subsequently, St. John Catholic Church, Malvern, and St. Mary Church in Arkadelphia prior to being named pastor in Cherokee Village and Horseshoe Bend.

Father Linus was a very dedicated priest with a true missionary spirit. He served those entrusted to his care with gentleness and love.

A Vigil service will be prayed at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, 617 S. Louisiana, Little Rock, on Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated, also at the Cathedral, on Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m. Bishop Augustine of Orlu will be the principal celebrant.

A second Vigil service will be prayed at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 1002 First Street, Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas on Sunday, May 25, at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Michael Catholic Church, Tekakwitha Drive and Hwy. 62/412, Cherokee Village, Arkansas on Monday, May 26, at 11 a.m. Bishop Anthony Taylor, Bishop of Little Rock will be the principal celebrant. She was preceded in death by her husband Hermon McPherson. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie (Barbara) McPherson of Jacksonville Ark., J.W. McPherson of Hampton, Ark., and Leroy McPherson of Camden, Ark.; two daughters, Gearoldene (Harold) Walker of Camden, Ark. and Alice (Gary) Jones of Gainesville, Texas.
