Woman dies in Van Buren County crash

A Kentucky woman died in a Friday morning crash in Van Buren County, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Lilibeth Fitzback, 51, of Radcliff, Ky., was traveling south on U.S. 65 2 miles north of Dennard in her Chevrolet Cruze when she crossed the centerline and hit a northbound Chevrolet pickup. Fitzback was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

State police reported that conditions were clear and dry at the time of the 9 a.m. collision.

Also, two Arkansans died in separate wrecks Thursday.

A Wabash man died Thursday evening in a two-vehicle wreck in Phillips County 1 mile north of Helena-West Helena, state police reported.

James Ambrose, 71, was exiting a private drive onto U.S. 49 in his Ford F-150 about 7:10 p.m. when his truck was struck by a northbound Freightliner truck driven by Leroy Hardrick, 52, of Batesville, Miss. Ambrose was pronounced dead at the scene. Hardrick was transported to Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Ambrose's death was the 400th fatality on Arkansas roads this year.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time, state police reported.

State police also reported that a Mountainburg man was killed Thursday afternoon on U.S. 71 in Crawford County.

Shane McCormick, 28, was driving southbound in a Ford Escape around 2:45 p.m. when he ran off the right shoulder of the road. His vehicle slid down into an embankment, went airborne after driving over a driveway and overturned into a tree. A passenger, Clarissa Grife, 25, also of Mountainburg, was injured in the wreck and taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

According to state police, conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck.
