Train, truck collide in North Little Rock

A teenage boy was injured Wednesday after the truck he was driving collided with a train in North Little Rock, officials say.

The 16-year-old was driving east on Hudman Road in a 1995 Dodge pickup at about 8 a.m., when he failed to yield and collided with a northbound Union Pacific locomotive, according to a Pulaski County sheriff’s office report.

The pickup came to rest on the east side of the railroad tracks.

Michael Barnes, engineer of the locomotive, said he was traveling between 40 and 45 miles per hour at the time of the collision and blew the horn to warn motorists before the accident, the report states.

Barnes said the driver of the pickup was attempting to cross the railroad tracks when the collision occurred.

The boy told deputies that he did not see or hear the train when he attempted to cross the railroad crossing. He complained of back and arm pain after the accident, and was transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for further treatment, the report states. Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Carl Minden said the boy's injuries were non-life-threatening.
