Pavement markings topic of Thursday public meetings

Little Rock residents are invited to a public meeting Thursday to discuss the reconfiguration of pavement markings on parts of Chester Street and Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive, city officials said in a news release.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held in the Dunbar Community Center at 1001 W. 16th St.

Two vehicular lanes in each direction are currently marked on the streets, but those markings will change after the streets are resurfaced, according to the release.

After the resurfacing, Chester Street from Interstate 630 to Roosevelt Road will have a three-lane section, with one lane in each direction and a center turning lane, according to the city. Dedicated bicycle lanes will be marked as well.

Markings on Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive from Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to State Street will feature the same markings. However, from State Street to Commerce Street, the travel lanes will be shared by vehicles and bicycles.

Property owners, building occupants and residents in the vicinity of the Louisiana Street corridor are also invited to a noon meeting at the Downtown Partnership, located in the Lafayette Building at 523 S. Louisiana St., to discuss pavement markings on Louisiana Street from Fourth Street to Interstate 630.

Representatives from Public Works Traffic Engineering and Civil Engineering Division will be present at both meetings to receive public input and discuss the project, which is part of the city's Resurfacing Program.
