Benton man arrested on false imprisonment, assault charges

A Benton man was arrested on false imprisonment and assault charges after police say he wouldn’t let a woman leave his house earlier this week.

Benton police officers responded to a disturbance with a weapon call about 10:29 a.m. Wednesday at 1616 Hudson St., Benton Police Department spokesman Lt. Kevin Russell said in a statement.

When officers arrived, they made contact with Gary Kyle, 53, of Benton, who matched the description of the suspect in the incident, Russell said.

The victim told police that she attempted to leave Kyle’s residence numerous times, but he physically restrained her to keep her from leaving.

The victim said some of her friends tried to help her leave, but Kyle "threatened to harm one of them with a knife,” according to the statement.

Kyle was taken into custody Wednesday and was charged with terroristic threatening, false imprisonment, aggravated assault and third-degree assault on a family or household member. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be added, police said.

Kyle was no longer listed on the Saline County sheriff’s office inmate roster at 1 p.m. Friday.
