State Fairgrounds hosts flu shot clinic

On Tuesday, the Pulaski County Health Department is hosting its annual Mass Flu Shot Clinic.

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., people can get a flu shot free of charge at the Hall of Industry on the State Fairgrounds.

The department asks that those who attend bring their insurance cards so the department can seek reimbursement.

Alcohol measure removed by clerk

Pulaski Circuit/County Clerk Larry Crane said he requested removal of an alcohol sales permit measure before the Quorum Court this week after realizing the measure was incomplete.

The measure was meant to update a 1983 local ordinance that applies fees to alcohol sales permits obtained by businesses in the county's unincorporated area. Crane and acting County Attorney Amanda Mitchell said the county ordinance containing now-illegal fees had been out of date, although they didn't know for how long.

State law says that a county or municipality can charge up to half of what the state charges for alcohol-sales permits, Mitchell told the Quorum Court on Oct. 14. In recent years, the state Legislature changed the amounts the state can charge, but the county did not update its ordinance, she said.

The measure before the Quorum Court this month would have lowered charges for six retail, wholesale distributor, hotel and restaurant permits as much as $250 and raised the charge for private clubs from $250 to $750. But the measure omitted one fee change, and Crane said he decided to pull it instead of trying to amend it this late in the month.

Crane said he plans to submit it again when it is fixed and contains more complete information on who was charged incorrect amounts.
