A Little Rock man was arrested early Wednesday morning in a gas station robbery on Stagecoach Road.

A Little Rock Police Department report states that officers responded to a robbery call about 5:25 a.m. at the Valero gas station at 10501 Stagecoach Road.

A Valero employee told police that he was robbed by a black man wearing a white face mask and holding “what he thought was a knife" to the employee's throat.

The robber was identified as 18-year-old Diavone Torrence. The employee said Torrence took money from the gas station’s cash register, put it into a white Valero grocery bag and fled toward the back of the business, the report states.

Little Rock Police Department Lt. Sidney Allen said a witness who passed by the business during the robbery told police he saw Torrence run past the Shipley Do-Nuts nearby, then behind a house at 10601 Stagecoach Road.

The witness said he turned around to return to the gas station and saw Torrence run south on Stagecoach Road, toward Westwood Apartments, located at 1 Nandina Circle.

An officer drove toward the apartment complex, where he saw Torrence jogging. The report states that officers asked Torrence to come to their patrol car. He was searched and taken back to the gas station where the employee identified Torrence as the man who robbed him.

Torrence was taken into police custody, and officers searched the area between the gas station and the house at 10601 Stagecoach Road, according to the report.

Officers found a pair of black gloves, a white bag from Valero, a black shirt, black pants and a white bandana, but they did not locate a knife or money.

While officers were buckling Torrence into the patrol car, the report states that they saw dollar bills inside one of his shoes.

Cash was found in Torrence’s right shoe and coins in the left, police said. He was taken to the downtown detective office, where he confessed to the robbery.

Torrence is being charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of theft of property. He’s currently in the Pulaski County jail with bond not yet set.
