Red Wolves’ Gordon out for Miami game

JONESBORO — Arkansas State will be without starting running back Michael Gordon on Saturday and maybe longer, Coach Blake Anderson said Wednesday.

Gordon, a junior, hasn’t practiced this week after re-aggravating a rib injury during last week’s 34-19 loss at Tennessee. Anderson said Gordon will likely miss Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game at Miami and could miss the Sept. 20 home game against Utah State.

“Really don’t expect him to play this week and really potentially another week,” Anderson said. “We’ve got to get him healthy. It’s day to day, but I definitely don’t expect him to play this weekend.”

Gordon, who led the team in rushing last season, has 85 yards on 14 carries through 2 games. He first bruised his ribs on the first quarter of the Aug. 30 season opener against Montana State.

Redshirt freshman Johnston White, DeKeathan Williams, who was moved from linebacker in the spring, and true freshmen Terrance Hollingsworth and Brandon Byner back up Gordon.
