Health and Safety Expo

HEBER SPRINGS — The second annual Health and Safety Expo will be held from 1-6 p.m. at the Heber Springs Community Center, 201 Bobbie Jean Lane. The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive. Fall Gospel Meeting

CALICO ROCK — The third annual Mountain Man Rendezvous and Native American Day will be held Friday and Saturday in Randy Park. Family Weekend

BATESVILLE — Lyon College’s annual Family Weekend will be held Friday through Sunday for students and their families. The Mindsurfin’ Mentalist Comedy Show, a family-friendly event, will feature Rich and Marielle Aimes, a renowned mentalism entertainment duo, at 8 p.m. Friday in the Maxfield Room of Edwards Commons. From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Student Life and Supplemental Instruction staff members will be available to answer parents’ questions and review services that are offered to students. White River Water Carnival events will also take place Saturday. On Sunday, activities will wrap up with a family worship service at 10 a.m. in the small chapel in Brown Chapel and with Sundae Funday from 1-2:30 p.m., when families can create ice cream sundaes. Trial by Jury Dinner Party

POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park’s Trial by Jury Dinner Party will be held Saturday. More than 135 years ago, David Kahn was accused of murdering a horse thief, and his trial was full of surprises and intrigues that would rival any modern crime drama. The dinner party will re-enact Kahn’s trial. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a Dutch-oven dinner; then attendees will play the roles of defendant, witnesses, lawyers and jurors to determine the fate of David Kahn. Participants may dress casually or wear 19th-century costumes. The cost is $15 per person, and preregistration is required. River City Cruisers Car Show

BATESVILLE — The River City Cruisers of Batesville will hold its seventh annual car show Saturday at Riverside Park. Car-show entries cost $20 per vehicle. There will be a 50/50 cash drawing, music, door prizes and concessions. This event is held in conjunction with the White River Water Carnival, which includes boat drag races on the White River, a firetruck pull and a parade through the park. Dutch-Oven Cooking Class

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will offer a Dutch-oven cooking class from 2-4 p.m. at the park, located 15 minutes from Pocahontas on Arkansas 166. Participants will learn how to cook with Dutch ovens and how to care for them while cooking an Italian meal to eat at the end of the class. The class is for all levels of Dutch-oven cooks, but not for children younger than 8. Preregistration is required. Admission is $13 per person. To register, call (870) 892-4708.

2014 Jamboree

WARD — The Ward Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Jamboree from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ward Chamber Community Center downtown. Ladies Day

NEWPORT — Sandhill Church of Christ will hold a Ladies Day, beginning at 9 a.m. Registration and a continental breakfast will be followed by the program from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The speaker for the event is Denise Beneby of Searcy. A salad luncheon will be served following the program. The church is at 4400 Arkansas 17 S., about nine miles south of Newport and one mile south of Auvergne.

Poker Run/Walk

CABOT — A Poker Run/Walk will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Southside Elementary School. The cost is $10 to participate. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

Second Saturday Bingo

Classically Jazz Concert

BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Department of Music will present classical musician Tammie Burger in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lecture Hall of the Science Building. The free performance is open to the public. The concert, titled Classically Jazz, will include a mixture of both classical music and jazz, with pieces by Chopin, Beethoven, Villa-Lobos, Dave Brubeck, and Kern & Hammerstein. Fine Arts for Exceptional Hearts

AARP Smart Driver Course

SEARCY — The PrimeTimes of White County Medical Center will offer an AARP Smart Driver Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hubach Center. Participants are asked to park behind the hospital off Moore Street and use the elevator to go to the first floor. The instructors are Frances and Bill Mizell. Quarterly Luncheon

HEBER SPRINGS — The Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its quarterly luncheon at noon at the Heber Springs Community Center. Julie Murray, the new chamber director, will be the guest speaker and present Leadership Heber Springs. This is a new program sponsored by the chamber and ASU-Heber Springs that will focus on developing and educating the future leaders of the Heber Springs area.
