Ex-deputy found dead in driveway

Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown said the death of a former Sebastian County deputy on Friday is being investigated as a homicide.

David Jackson of Bidville was found dead from a gunshot wound in his driveway, Brown said. He said a neighbor discovered Jackson's body after his wife asked the person to check on him.

"His wife was in the Van Buren area, and she had called him several times and had not received a returned call," Brown said.

Paramedics were called to Jackson's house after receiving the 911 call at 1:39 p.m., Brown said. Bidville is located in northeastern Crawford County.

"The caller was reporting a male face down in his driveway" Brown said. "They believed it was possibly a heart attack."

Brown said the body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory. He said the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is assisting with the case.

Jackson, 66, worked for the Sebastian County sheriff's office for several years in the detention and patrol divisions, said Phillip Pevehouse, public information officer for the sheriff's office.

Pevehouse said Jackson left the department to pursue other opportunities.
