$7.5 million in economic grants awarded in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman and Reps. Tim Griffin and Steve Womack have announced $7.5 million in economic development grants in Arkansas.

The grants announced Tuesday include $1.2 million for rail improvements in Corning; $1.2 million for a medical school in Fort Smith; and $1.2 million for an access road and drainage improvements along Interstate 30 at Hope. A $1.2 million grant will help upgrade a rail line from Lake Village to Lake Providence, La.; and $1 million will be used for a hanger, roadway, and parking lot at Stuttgart Municipal Airport.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will receive $1.1 million for a new workforce training center, and the UA board of trustees will receive $597,116 to expand outreach services at the university's World Trade Center.
