Event across state to take back drugs

An event in which Arkansans are encouraged to return expired and unneeded prescription and over-the-counter drugs will be held at sites provided by law enforcement officers Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The free event is intended to remove unused or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications from homes, where they could be stolen, accidentally ingested, abused or become a water pollutant. Collected medications are taken to an incinerator and destroyed.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock police will host a collection station at 2801 S. University Ave., Suite 700.

In Sherwood, expired or unneeded drugs can be disposed of at the Sherwood Police Department, 2201 E. Kiehl Ave.; CHI St. Vincent North, 2215 Wildwood Ave.; Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, 8801 Arkansas 107; or at the Gravel Ridge Police Substation, 14905 Arkansas 107.

In Benton, a permanent 24-hour drop-off box is located at the Benton Police Department, 100 S. East St. The Saturday drop-off site will be at Ferguson's Furniture, 1200 Ferguson Drive.

Pine Bluff's site will be at Brookshire's at 2800 S. Hazel St., where the Jefferson County sheriff's office mobile incident command members will provide assistance.
