Woman says lover tied, beat her up

Police said a homeless woman was tied to a tree and beaten by a homeless man Saturday evening in Little Rock.

About 7 p.m. Saturday, Little Rock police officers responded to a report of an assault at the McDonald's restaurant at 7200 W. 12th St. They located Twyla Garner, 37, of Little Rock sitting on a curb with a bloody nose and rope tied around her neck, according to a report. Garner said her boyfriend, Steven Holfeltz, 35, of Little Rock had been drinking vodka in the woods near Kanis Park. She said Holfeltz tied her to a tree "then left to get cigarettes." Garner also said Holfeltz had told her that "the Galactic Federation told him to kill her."

Emergency medical responders cut the rope and removed it from Garner's neck before transporting her to Baptist Medical Center. At the hospital, Garner told nurses that Holfeltz had kicked her and punched her in the face.

Police were unable to locate Holfeltz. According to the report, no further action is being pursued by the department.

3 wake, find man searching purse

Police arrested a Little Rock man early Monday morning after three women discovered him rifling through a purse in the waiting room of the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Jesse Wayne Wright, 48, was arrested on one count of felony robbery and one count of misdemeanor theft after Renee Koob, 61; Carol Losey, 18; and Zee Losey, 61, told police they had been sleeping in the hospital's waiting area when they awoke to find Wright going through a purse belonging to one of the women, according to a police report. When the women tried to grab their personal items, including a cellphone, back from Wright, he purportedly "punched, scratched and bit the victims," according to the report.

When hospital police arrested Wright, they found additional items that had been stolen inside the hospital two days prior in Wright's bag. He was being held Monday in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

LR man charged in burglary, theft

Police arrested a Little Rock man early Sunday morning on several felony charges including residential burglary, theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of a firearm by certain persons and aggravated assault.

According to the arrest report, Kenny Taylor, 22, of 71 Saxony Circle and another, unidentified person purportedly broke into the home of Jeanne Murphy, 62. The two are charged with stealing a purse and credit cards, as well as a 2000 Lexus LS-400. Taylor used the credit cards twice at a Wal-Mart located at 2700 S. Shackleford Road, according to the report. When police arrested Taylor, there was a firearm inside the vehicle.

Taylor is currently on probation for a March conviction on charges of breaking and entering and theft of property stemming from a July 2013 arrest. Taylor was also convicted of second-degree domestic battery in June 2012. He was being held Monday in the Pulaski County jail, awaiting extradition to Saline County.
