Weekend wrecks kill two, injure two

One man was killed and another man was injured in a head-on collision in Izard County on Saturday, according to Arkansas State Police.

Jimmy Vernon, 48, of Sage was driving a Dodge east on Arkansas 58 at 6:40 p.m. when he crossed the centerline and struck a westbound Ford. According to an accident report, the Ford was driven by 55-year-old David Satterwhite of Mount Pleasant.

Vernon was killed, and Satterwhite was transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville with injuries, police said. Satterwhite's condition was unknown Sunday.

Also, a Hope man died early Sunday morning after his car overturned and hit a tree, according to state police.

The accident occurred about 2:10 a.m. at the intersection of East Avenue H and North Walker Street in Hope. Emmanuel Rodgers, 25, was driving east when his Chevrolet Malibu left the road, overturned and struck the tree, state police said.

According to an accident report, Rodgers was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, 21-year-old Cabrienna Johnson of Hope, was transported to Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas, with injuries. Her condition was unknown late Sunday.
