BLYTHEVILLE — Leaders in Mississippi County have agreed to look at whether to switch to a single county seat system.
Blytheville and Osceola now serve as dual county seats in Mississippi County. The Mississippi County Quorum Court voted Tuesday night to consider whether the county should close one of the current courthouses or choose a new location altogether for the county seat.
A Blytheville Courier-News article states the resolution designates Justice of the Peace Fred Fleeman as project manager to come up with building requirements for a single courthouse facility.
A change to the county seat would have to be approved by voters. Mississippi County is one of 10 in Arkansas that has dual county seats.
