Series of events frame exhibit at Arts Center

The Arkansas Arts Center has created an array of activities around the exhibition "30 Americans," including:

• Feed Your Mind Friday, a series of artists' talks. It opens with silverpoint artist Marjorie Smith at noon Friday. Others scheduled include Delita Martin, April 17; Virmarie DePoster, April 24; A.J. Smith, May 8; David Clemons, May 15; Garbo and Dr. Archie Hearn, May 22; Angela Davis Johnson, June 19. Stephens Inc. Visitors Center, 111 Center St., Little Rock. Free.

• A panel on building an art collection with Don and Mera Rubell, whose collection was the source of "30 Americans," along with Juan Roselione-Valadez, director, Rubell Family Collection and Contemporary Arts Foundation. "30 Americans" artist Shinique Smith will also participate. 6 p.m. May 7, Lower Lobby Lecture Hall, Arkansas Arts Center. Free for members, $10 nonmembers.

• A film series at 2 p.m. on selected Sundays includes Jean-Michel Basquiat: Radiant Child, May 31; Through a Lens Darkly, June 7; Kehinde Wiley: An Economy of Grace, June 14. Lower Lobby Lecture Hall. Free.

• Poetry slam, "Art on Art: An Ekphrastic Slam," 6:30 p.m. June 2, Lower Lobby Lecture Hall. Call the Arts Center, (501) 372-4000 for ticket information.

• "Art as Activism," co-sponsored with the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, 6:30 p.m. June 18. Ila Sheren, professor at Washington University in St. Louis, will moderate a discussion with Thomas Allen Harris, filmmaker of Through a Lens Darkly; Deborah Willis, photography and imaging department chairman, Tisch School of the Arts, New York; and artists Charley Palmer and Delita Martin.
