Finalist for UAM's top post drops out

One of the four finalists for the chancellorship at the University of Arkansas at Monticello has dropped out of the race, a spokesman said Monday.

Robert McGehee Jr., dean of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Graduate School and executive director of the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, has withdrawn from consideration, UAM spokesman Jim Brewer said in a news release.

The three remaining finalists are:

• Timothy Cornelius, vice president for learning: global business, health professions, external programs and adult basic education at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville.

• Richard Dawe, president of Ozarka College in Melbourne.

• Steven Runge, executive vice president and provost at the University of Central Arkansas.

Cornelius and Dawe have already completed their campus visits, and Runge is scheduled to visit the 3,850-student campus on Monday and Tuesday.

Runge will also have a public reception Monday from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Green Room of the John F. Gibson University Center.

The candidates are vying for the chancellor's position, which was vacated by Jack Lassiter.

Lassiter, 69, retired Jan. 5 after leading the university for nearly a decade. He earned $196,974 annually.

Jay Jones, the vice chancellor for finance and administration at the campus, has been serving as an interim leader for the campus.
