LITTLE ROCK — A federal judge has scheduled a hearing regarding the creation of a new school district in Jacksonville.
U.S. District Judge D. Price Marshall has scheduled the hearing for April 17 at 10 a.m.
Voters in November approved creation of the new district and separating from the Pulaski County Special School District.
Lawyers for the Pulaski County district have offered a plan for dividing state desegregation funding between the two districts in a motion filed last Friday. It includes paying Jacksonville a percentage of settlement money awarded to the Pulaski district under a decades-old school desegregation case that has its roots in the court-ordered integration of Little Rock Central High School in 1957.
Interveners in the desegregation case asked for the hearing.
