Widening work at I-40/I-430 interchange delayed

Note: The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Wednesday that the work to widen a section of Interstate 430 in North Little Rock has been delayed because of weather and has not yet been rescheduled. Below is the previous version of our story on the work.

Widening a section of Interstate 430 in North Little Rock will require lane closures starting Friday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department announced Monday.

Crews will place concrete to widen I-430 southbound near the Interstate 40/I-430 interchange, state Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Jeff Whatley said in a news release.

The southbound, inside lane of I-430 will close near the interchange from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday through Monday, Whatley said.

The improvements are part of the department's Connecting Arkansas Program, a 10-year project to widen and improve about 200 miles of highways and interstates, according to the program's website.

This $38.4 million improvement project includes widening 5.1 miles of I-40 to three lanes between Arkansas 365 and I-430 and should be complete by 2016, the release states.
