Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said Sherwood police began the chase and troopers joined. Sherwood police spokesman Lt. Jamie Michaels did not return calls seeking further information. According to a police broadcast, the pursuit of a black pickup began about 4:40 p.m.

The chase continued on Interstate 40 west into North Little Rock, where Little Rock officers joined and followed the vehicle across the river into downtown about 5:05 p.m., according to the broadcast. That's when Sherwood officers and state police backed off the chase.

Officers reported that the driver traveled onto a Main Street sidewalk south toward Roosevelt Road. Little Rock police suspended the chase soon afterward at 5:15 p.m.

Witnesses said Main Street between Capitol Avenue and Sixth Street was blocked off due to ongoing construction when the chase entered the sidewalk. Light tire tracks were visible afterward, but there was no apparent damage.

No arrests had been made late Tuesday.
