Severe storms are possible for much of Arkansas Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Chris Buonanno, science and operations officer for the agency’s North Little Rock office, said in an email that thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon, with the strongest storms across the southern half of Arkansas.

It’s possible the storms will bring large hail and damaging winds, Buonanno said, and though tornados are not expected, isolated tornados are possible.

The National Weather Service expects the thunderstorms to form into a line after dark, bringing the chance of severe weather to the entire state. This line of thunderstorms will slightly diminish the potential for hail, and damaging winds will be the primary threat, Buonanno said. By midnight, the agency expects the storms to push east of Arkansas.
