Travs rained out; DH set for tonight

The Arkansas Travelers waited through a rain delay to capture their first home victory Saturday night. They'll have to wait another day to get their second.

The opening game of a three-game series between the Travs and the Midland RockHounds was postponed at about 7 p.m. Sunday, after stadium workers had covered the infield with the tarp awaiting rain.

The Travs and the RockHounds will play a doubleheader today at 6:10 p.m. The second game will begin 20 minutes after the first one ends.

"Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast," Arkansas Manager Bill Richardson said.

The Travs will likely have a chance to use the new addition to their roster in today's double header. Shortstop Eric Stamets was placed on the seven-day disabled list Saturday after injuring his shoulder Thursday night. Stamets was still in North Little Rock on Sunday, but Richardson said he'll go to Tempe, Ariz., for rehab soon as the Los Angeles Angels decide if surgery is necessary.

In the meantime, utility player Drew Maggi will continue as Arkansas' regular shortstop. Maggi, in his fourth season at Class AA, is in his first season at Arkansas and is hitting .357 through six games so far this season.

The Travs received Raul Linares from extended spring training Sunday, and Richardson said he'll play in a utility role. Linares can play second base, third base and in the outfield, though Richardson said he'll likely play in the infield.

"He's a little spark plug," Richardson said. "He plays hard."
