Police were called to 1813 S. Valentine St. at 3:12 p.m. where they found an unidentified resident who had been shot in his shoulder, police reported.

The victim was transported to UAMS Medical Center with a nonlife-threatening wound, Sgt. Michael Ford said.

Ford said approximately four shots were fired at the victim from a black or dark-colored sport utility vehicle traveling east on 19th Street, about a half block south of the South Valentine Street residence. Two black men were reportedly in the vehicle.

Ford said several children were inside the house at the time of the shooting.

The shooting occurred a half block south of Stephens Elementary School at 3700 W. 18th St.

Neighbor Tony Walker, 21, had just entered his house catty-cornered from 1813 S. Valentine St. with some of his children when he heard the gunfire. Walker, along with his wife, Siamone, 24, and five children, who range in age from 9 months to 9 years, were all home at the time of the shooting.

"We just walked in the house," Tony Walker said. "By the time I turned my back, the only thing you heard was gunshots."

Siamone Walker said the victim's children usually were outside playing in the yard, along with other children in the neighborhood, but not Wednesday afternoon.

"There's usually a whole bunch of kids out playing," she said. "All the kids play on the street. It scared the mess out of me."

LR man arrested in gas store heist

A Little Rock man was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with aggravated robbery in connection with an April 13 convenience store holdup, police said.

Anthony Deron Perry, 28, of 9122 Tanya Drive, Apartment A, was arrested at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday at 1005 Dennison St. in Little Rock, according to an arrest report.

According to a police report, a man entered the Shell station at 16900 Cantrell Road about 2 a.m. April 13 and asked to buy a candy bar. He demanded money when the cash register opened. The man took about $200 and ran to a car in the parking lot as an employee chased him with a baseball bat.

The employee told police he smashed the rear window of the vehicle before the driver sped away with the robber, police reported.

Physical evidence collected at the scene identified Perry as the suspect, and the gas station employee also identified Perry, police reported. When questioned, Perry admitted to police that he robbed the store, the report said.

Perry, also charged with theft of property, was being held in the Pulaski County jail Wednesday night with no bail set.
