Agency names six finalists for award

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has named six finalists for its Environmental Stewardship Award, which recognizes individuals and organizations for “efforts to enhance and protect Arkansas’ natural resources.”

The finalists are Camfil Air Pollution Control in Jonesboro for its sustainability program; Fayetteville for its recycling campaign; Goodwill Industries of Arkansas for its sustainability program; Kraft Foods Group for sustainability and recycling in Fort Smith; the Lake Fayetteville Environmental Science Center for its education, outreach and conservation efforts; and the Saline County Regional Solid Waste District for its outreach program for teenagers.

The department will announce the winner at the Pollution Control and Ecology Commission meeting today, the end of its annual Earth Week observance.

Rogers firm gains Energy Star honor

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy named Stitt Energy Systems of Rogers a 2015 Energy Star Partner of the Year.

The EPA is recognizing 128 entities from 33 states this year for energy efficiency initiatives that protect the climate, according to a news release.

Stitt Energy Systems, along with other groups, is “contributing to the prevention of more than 3.5 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emission,” the release said.

The home-construction company specializes in energy-efficient homes and renewable energy add-ons to them, such as solar panels.

The Energy Star Partner program works with more than 16,000 businesses and individuals wanting to invest in energy efficiency.
